My gym, and other bits of life

My gym:

Aka, my balcony (I know, I have a balcony. I didn't ask for the master bedroom, but the four boys living here initially wanted to give it to me, and I wasn't gonna say no.), a jump rope (thanks, Kelly!), and a foam pad. I think that getting a little exercise is worth all the pollution getting into my lungs. Hopefully.

Other highlights of the last two days:

Rain! Kampala is approaching its rainy season and we got a taste yesterday. It was great...I haven't seen this good of a thunderstorm since I left the lodge.

Rain (you can kinda see it spouting off the roof on the left side of the picture) from our favorite fancy coffee shop. Food here is almost ten times as expensive as local food, but it is a nice place to work, and you can sit there all day.

And, last night, I walked across the dark golf course to attend a meeting of the Mountain Club of Uganda meeting. It was a fun group of like-minded/outdoors people, and the first expats I've spent much time around. Expat culture, seems so far to be an odd mix of spending time with other expats, living a pretty privileged lifestyle among Africans who have very little, and trying to help/change people's lives in some Western way - most expats I've met work in development or health or something similar. Anyhow, I enjoyed the evening and hopefully will get to have some adventures in my last few weekends here.
